The William J. Fields Courtyard hosted its first diploma ceremony May 16 for the Class of 2010 in the Undergraduate Business, Full Time MBA, Flex MBA, and Master of Accounting programs.  The diploma ceremony was part of the larger Commencement Ceremony of the College.

Dean Lawrence B. Pulley addressed the graduating classes for the first time at Miller Hall, which just completed its first year of academic classes since its October 2009 dedication.  Before Miller Hall, the School of Business celebrated its diploma ceremony in the Wren Courtyard.

In his remarks, Dean Pulley marked the new tradition of the diploma ceremony at Miller Hall. In his brief history of significant events that took place on the land that Miller Hall now occupies, Pulley noted that the land was part of the original 330-acre tract of land purchased by the College on December 20, 1693, at the time of the Royal Charter, for 170 pounds.

Pulley noted on the revolutionary events that transpired on the land throughout its 300-plus years and charged the students to take that spirit and determination with them as they leave the Mason School.

“Godspeed.  Wherever life takes you remember that we share a common, proud heritage.  You are now a part of us and we are a part of you.  And, please, know that you will always be welcome here.” --Dean Lawrence B. Pulley
