Your MAcc Degree

Class Schedules and Registration Procedures

Please read this page carefully as well as all emails sent to you regarding registration. The information on this site contains all the instructions you will receive regarding class registration. 

When registering for classes, all students should consider two things: classes for graduation from the MAcc program and credit requirements to sit for the CPA exam. To that end, all students should work through their degree evaluation via The College's website as well as send their transcripts to the BOA in the state they plan to sit for the CPA for a pre-evaluation (if available) in preparation for taking the CPA exam. 

Fall Registration

Every MAcc student is assigned a section and team for the fall. The MAcc Program will register all students for classes.

The fall schedule for all MAcc students as well as digest versions of that same schedule for each section will be located on the MAcc Outlook Calendar. If you have any questions, then please do not hesitate to contact the MAcc Program office.

Spring Registration

In the spring, students register for their elective classes via Banner Self-Service. Please review directions for how to use Banner here. All elective course descriptions can be accessed via the Graduate Catalog via Open Course Listing.

Emphasis Declaration Form:

 Students may choose to take a deeper dive into a particular area of accounting by choosing one of the following emphases: Accounting Analytics Emphasis, Audit & Assurance, Experiential, Taxation or Valuation. No one is required to pursue an emphasis. Only one emphasis can be listed on your student record. For students graduating in May 2024, emphasis declaration forms are due on 1/24/2024.  Click here to declare your Emphasis (if any). 

Winter Field Experience

The Master of Accounting Integrated Winter Field Experience (IWFE) is an optional half-semester program, starting at the beginning of January and ending at the start of Sprint Week. This is an excellent way for students to explore a field of interest, gain valuable career-related experience and build a network of professional colleagues. 

Degree Evaluation

When planning your courses for the year, we encourage students to review the degree requirements of the MAcc Program. Refer to this site for instructions on how to access your Degree Evaluation. Dual Degree Students: Since MAcc is defined as your secondary program in Banner,  your process is a little different - please contact the MAcc Program office for instructions.  

The CPA Exam

Eligibility to sit for the CPA examination is determined by the Board of Accountancy in the state in which a candidate would like to pursue certification. Eligibility to sit for the CPA examination is not determined in any way by the Master of Accounting program. We recommend that you submit a copy of your undergraduate transcripts and any other relevant coursework to the BOA of your chosen state as soon as possible. They will review your courses and issue a determination on what other courses you may need.

The W&M Master of Accountancy program meets the educational requirements for CPA Licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia and may meet the educational requirements for other states. The individual state accountancy boards have sole authority in determining whether credits earned are acceptable for examination and licensure. William & Mary has not determined whether the specific educational requirements for licensure or certification in your state has been met and encourages all prospective students to thoroughly review the information available on the NASBA website. Students should work with an advisor to ensure they are completing appropriate coursework and be aware of additional non-educational requirements such as professional work experience.
