Graduate Business Honor Council
Any matters, issues, or potential infractions of the Honor Code in any graduate business program will be reported to the Graduate Business Honor Council, which is made up of students from the Residential full-time MBA, part-time MBA, EMBA, MAcc, MSBA, and Online MBA, MSBA, MAcc, MSFinance and MSMarketing programs, with the goal of promoting and upholding the Honor Code at Mason. The Honor Council, with advising from Community Values & Restorative Practices, reviews all reports and determines outcomes in accordance with the Honor Code. The Council maintains confidentiality with respect to its procedures and outcomes.
The Honor Code presumes that our community is trustworthy; thus, it requires that the student be provided an opportunity to explain the conduct before one reports a matter for review by the Council. The process begins with a personal discussion whereby the person observing the conduct asks for an explanation (if an in-person conversation is impractical or impossible, we recommend Zoom). The conversation should occur as quickly as possible. Only if the explanation proves inadequate to negate the concern that a possible violation has occurred, should one file an official report. After a good faith effort to offer the student the opportunity to request and explanation goes unanswered, the reporting party can submit the report.
Please see the William & Mary Honor website for more information. You also are welcome to call Community Values & Restorative Practices at 757-221-2509 or cvrp@wm.edu for advice and guidance.
