How did you choose the field of Accounting?

My dad is a business owner, so I knew that I wanted to do something in business, but I wasn't sure what specifically I wanted to do. I went into my undergraduate studies with a general business focus, and then I declared I wanted to pursue Accounting and complete my graduate degree. I like accounting because you can learn and grow. You get to work on teams, and there's always something new.

How was your experience applying to William & Mary's Master of Accounting (MAcc) program?

Something that I noticed that was different between William & Mary and other programs was that it was a very hands-on experience. They were really helpful. I had actually missed one of the deadlines, and the Admissions office reached out to me and made it really easy for me to complete it. I felt very valued and wanted, so that is what made me put this program above the other programs.

How would you describe the William & Mary MAcc program?

First off, it's a great school, it's a great community, and it's a great small town which is something I was really missing. The teachers are awesome. They pour into you, and they want you to succeed. They don't want you to just be a number and just check you off the list. And they don't want you to just pass the CPA, which is what I feel a lot of other programs do. You get out of the program what you put into it, so just work hard. William & Mary is known to have great students, and you would be lucky to be a part of it.

What advice can you give prospective students as they navigate the application process?

Look at all of your options, and don't just take something because it makes you feel comfortable. Here I am; from Texas, went to school in South Carolina for undergrad, and now here in Virginia at grad school. Take a chance. Do your best at filling out the application. Ask for help. And notice when you're wanted and where you're valued.
