Why pursue business as part of your education?
While touring schools, I was looking for a college that had business programs or business as an area of study. I had started my own business—I sell handmade crocheted items—and it was something I wanted to grow, so I saw business as a way to accomplish that in the future.
How has the academic content contributed positively to your experience at William & Mary?
To have the flexibility to take classes in various backgrounds and really explore topics outside of business, such as art or philosophy, helped me diversify my knowledge versus focusing on a one-minded discipline of study.
What have been some highlights for you at William & Mary?
I have enjoyed meeting like-minded students who take school seriously and having the opportunity to bond with them. Another highlight is my involvement with the Entrepreneurship Center. It is a great way for me to gain other perspectives from students of all academic backgrounds—not just business school students—and discover our shared interests despite coming from interdisciplinary backgrounds.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
I would like to work for a company that values sustainability. One of my majors is data science, so I'd like to leverage my data science skills to work and solve sustainability issues with a business focus. Long-term, I'd like to continue growing my own business, whether that's online or a brick-and-mortar shop.
