Scott Custer '79
Chief Executive Officer, Yadkin Bank
Custer, who led the relocation of RBC's U.S. headquarters from Rocky Mount to Raleigh, helped start what as known as Piedmont Community Bank in 2009. Initial investors backed the bank with $12 million, which was pumped almost immediately into Piedmont's first deal, for what was then a $95 million Burlington bank, Vantage South.
The bank continued to evolve through a series of acquisitions. In 2011, Piedmont, led by Custer, announced it was buying a majority stake in Cary-based Crescent Bank. And in 2012, Vantage South and Cresent merged under the Vantage South brand. Then, in 2014, Vantage South and Elkin-based Yadkin Financial Corporation announced another merger deal. Custer led the new resulting entity, called Yadkin Financial.
