Ralph Nelson
Vice President & Chief Operating Officer of Cognitive Applications, IBM
Ralph Nelson, the current vice president and chief operating officer of Watson Transformations in the IBM's Watson Group, is responsible for leading the operations team. In this role, Ralph Nelson oversees Transformations staffing and strategy, as well as program management at the Watson Group.
Prior to his current position at the Watson Group, Mr. Nelson served as a vice president in IBM’s consulting business, Global Business Services. As the delivery leader for North America, he was responsible for ensuring client satisfaction and working with project teams to meet client commitments. Previously, he led Applications Services delivery within IBM Global Business Services. He founded the Systems Engineering, Architecture, & Test organization, which provided critical expertise to complex systems projects to keep costs within budget and help deliver projects on time.
In addition to his experience within IBM, he began his career as a systems engineer developing sonar acoustic signal processing systems for U.S. Navy nuclear submarines. He later became a program manager at the Lockheed Martin Corporation, where his team focused on satellite communication systems
