Nicolas Boël MBA '89
Chairman of the Board, Solvay SA
Nicolas Boël was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Solvay Group in May of 2012. In his capacity as chairman, Nicolas is responsible for the management and oversight of the board and its review of the Group’s performance in meeting objectives in key areas of business performance and corporate social responsibility and in defining the Group’s strategy. He has been a member of the Solvay Board of Directors since 1998.
A member of the Solvay family, Nicolas served as General Manager of Myriad, a wholly-owned subsidiary of British-based Corus Group specializing in lacquer-coated steel production. Before that, he served in a variety of sales and executive positions both in Europe and North America for Corus, one of the world’s largest steel producers and which was acquired by the Indian conglomerate, Tata Steel, in 2007. Nicolas began his career at his family’s Belgian steel company Usines Gustave Böel in 1989.
Nicolas holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Louvain-la-Neuve near Brussels and earned a master's in business administration from William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. He and his family make their home in Brussels.
