Dean Todd Mooradian to step down after four years

William & Mary Provost Peggy Agouris announced Sept. 16 that Todd Mooradian, dean of the Raymond A. Mason School of Business, will step down from his role this fall following four years of leadership and nearly three decades of service as a William & Mary professor.

Mooradian returned to William & Mary in August 2022 after the retirement of Larry Pulley ’74, bringing decades of experience as an educator and scholar. Prior to his return, Mooradian served more than 27 years at the Mason School, where he helped advance the launch of William & Mary’s Online MBA and Master of Science in Business Analytics programs. He also previously served as dean of the College of Business at the University of Louisville.

During his tenure as dean, Mooradian guided the Mason School through a period of innovation, growth and advancement. Under his leadership, the school achieved national recognition, expanded academic offerings and strengthened its commitment to preparing students for an evolving business landscape.

Among the school’s recent accomplishments, the Mason School was ranked No. 1 nationally in military-friendly graduate education and expanded its support for military-affiliated students through initiatives including the Center for Military Transition. The school also introduced a redesigned Bachelor of Business Administration program, developed a more personalized and flexible Online MBA experience, and refreshed graduate programs to better align with emerging needs in business.

Mooradian also helped establish the Center for Excellence in Accounting in 2025 through a significant philanthropic investment and partnership with Rob W. Estes ’74 and Jean Berger Estes ’74. The center is designed to elevate the strategic importance of accounting education and encourage more students to pursue careers in the field.

Mooradian also advanced efforts to strengthen artificial intelligence adoption across the Mason School. These initiatives included the launch of the AI Summit, faculty mini-grants and AI-focused teaching and research symposia designed to build AI knowledge and capabilities among faculty, staff and students.

“I want to express my gratitude to Todd for his decades of committed service to the Mason School,” said Don Lowman, MBA ’82, chairman of the William & Mary School of Business Foundation. “As a professor, dean, colleague, friend, and unsurpassed supporter of Tribe athletics, Todd has brought energy and enthusiasm to every role he has played. His last four years as dean were pivotal in positioning the Mason School to navigate the many challenges that lie ahead. I have enjoyed partnering with Todd and wish him the best in his next chapter.”

“William & Mary is grateful for Dean Mooradian’s many years of dedicated service and leadership,” Agouris said in her campus announcement. “His contributions have helped position the Mason School for continued success and growth.”

Following Mooradian’s current departure, William & Mary will conduct a national search for the next dean of the Mason School of Business. In the interim, Ron Hess M.B.A. ’94, Larry Ring Executive MBA Professor of Business and vice dean for Academic Programs, will serve as interim dean.

Hess brings extensive experience in academic leadership and service to the Mason School and William & Mary. His previous roles include director of the Online MBA program, as well as service on Faculty Assembly and numerous university committees.

The Mason School community thanks Dean Mooradian for his leadership and dedication to the school and looks ahead to its continued momentum under interim leadership.
