An Unexpected Maestro Takes the Stage at the Annual William & Mary Wind Ensemble Holiday Concert
On Saturday, December 2, the William & Mary Wind Ensemble spread holiday cheer with their annual concert held at the newly inaugurated Performing Arts Center. The event, a celebration of musical talent and festive spirit, featured a special guest conductor – none other than Professor Jamie Diaz from the Raymond A. Mason School of Business.
Master of Accounting graduate students Carolyn Koerner and Zach Freiheiter, both accomplished musicians and integral members of the Wind Ensemble, extended a warm invitation to their fellow business school colleagues. The concert drew a diverse audience, highlighting the multifaceted talents within the Mason School of Business.
The evening took an unexpected turn when the ensemble announced a lottery drawing for a "guest conductor" during the rendition of the classic holiday tune, "Sleighbell." To the surprise of many, the lucky winner was Professor Jamie Diaz.
As she stepped onto the stage, the auditorium buzzed with excitement. Professor Diaz, now affectionately referred to as 'Maestro,' took control of the conductor's podium with poise and flair. Under her guidance, the Wind Ensemble delivered a spirited and engaging "Sleighbell" performance, which delighted the audience.
The event not only showcased the musical talents of the Master of Accounting graduate students but also highlighted the diverse and hidden talents within the Mason School of Business faculty. Professor Diaz's impromptu performance added an element of surprise and joy to an already delightful evening.
Reflecting on the experience, Professor Jamie Diaz shared, "Music can bring people together, transcending boundaries and showcasing the diverse talents we all possess. It was a pleasure to be a part of this festive celebration and to share a different side of myself with the Mason School of Business community."
The annual holiday concert served as a reminder of the talents that extend beyond the academic and professional realms, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie within the business school. As the final notes of the concert resonated through the Performing Arts Center, it was clear that this unexpected turn of events had created a memorable evening for all in attendance.
