Miller Hall hosts 10th annual Dog Street to Wall Street event
The 10th annual From DoG Street to Wall Street event took place in Alan B. Miller Hall on September 22nd and 23rd, 2016. The program was sponsored by the Boehly Center for Excellence in Finance, the Howard J. Busbee Finance Academy, and the Sherman & Gloria H. Cohen Career Center.
“DoG to Wall” opened with a keynote address by Craig Broderick ‘81, Chief Risk Officer at Goldman Sachs on Thursday evening. Mr. Broderick’s presentation covered topics ranging from capital requirements for financial institutions to other current regulatory policies affecting the financial industry. He also provided genuine and crucial advice for students regarding ways to achieve early career success. A loyal supporter of the College, he encouraged students to reach back and stay connected with their alma mater.
At the conclusion of the talk, officers from the Finance Academy presented Mr. Broderick with the 2016 Alumni Award in recognition of his service to William & Mary. As Dean Larry Pulley noted, “Craig has come and shared his advice and wisdom with our students in formal and informal settings, and he has worked hard to help us make sure our students are truly career-ready, and to connect them to world-class opportunities.”
The following day, over 40 finance industry professionals, alumni, and friends of William & Mary, led a series of panels on diverse topics, including investment banking, private banking, equity analysis, strategy consulting and much more.
“It is gratifying that so many of our alumni offer their time to help prepare these future professionals for successful careers,” said Finance Academy Advisor Professor Jim Haltiner.
That afternoon, the Women in Business club engaged students and alumni in a roundtable discussion on “The Perceptions of Women in Power.” WIB officers also presented their inaugural Alumni Award to Rick Stanley ’82, Executive Vice President at BNY Mellon, in recognition of his support of diversity initiatives.
With over 220 students in attendance, From DoG Street to Wall Street provided an unmatched opportunity for students to network with alumni and friends of William & Mary and to learn about careers in financial services.
