Jim Smith and Bill Geary, Professors of Accounting who share a combined 82 years of service at William & Mary, will retire in May.

Thousands of careers launched. Hundreds of hours advising. A myriad of leadership positions. An immeasurable number of students influenced. And more than eight decades of combined service. That begins to describe the legacy that Professors of Accounting Jim Smith and Bill Geary will leave at the Raymond A. Mason School of Business when they retire in May.

Celebrate Their Accomplishments

Either in person or in spirit, we invite you to attend two retirement events that celebrate the accomplishments and contributions of Professors Smith and Geary, including:

  • April 24—Faculty and alumni are invited to a reception in honor of Professors Geary and Smith on campus at Alan B. Miller Hall Brinkley Commons Room at 4:30 p.m.
  • May 7— Washington Area Alumni Business Alliance (WAABA) will hold their Annual Reception at the Ritz Carlton in Tysons Corner from 5:30 to 8 p.m., where Professors Smith and Geary will be recognized.

Honor Professors Smith and Geary for the years of dedicated service to the Raymond A. Mason School of Business with a gift to the John S. Quinn Faculty Endowment or the William T. Geary Faculty Fellowship Endowment.

  • John S. Quinn Faculty Endowment—Established in 1987, this fund honors Professor Emeritus John S. Quinn and provides support for an Accounting faculty member. It is currently held by Professor Jim Smith.
  • William T. Geary Faculty Fellowship Endowment—Named in honor of Professor Geary, this fund supports Business School faculty for research, curricular innovation and course development.
