The Public Accounting Report's 2009 Annual Survey of Accounting Professors recognizes the Mason School of Business at The College of William & Mary as the number one ranked small school for both their undergraduate and Master of Accounting programs. Its revolutionary approach to accounting education has consistently kept both programs competitively ranked in the Public Accounting Report for the past several years.

For the first time, the rankings have been split into three categories: small, medium and large schools, according to the number of teaching professors at the institution. The school rankings are based on professors’ ranking of accounting programs on a 1 to 10 scale in answering the question, "which programs consistently turn out students capable of some day attaining partner status?"

"The latest PAR ranking is the culmination of years of excellent work by our accounting faculty, the indispensible commitment from our support staff and administration in the Mason School of Business, and especially the tremendous career success by W&M accounting graduates over the years," said Accounting Programs Assistant Dean Tom White.  All of us are proud of this tradition and look forward to sustaining our quality standard well into the future."

The Mason School’s undergraduate and graduate programs fared well in the overall rankings as well. In this year’s national rankings, both the Undergraduate Accounting Program and the Master of Accounting Program (graduate) are among the 25 best national programs.

"We are delighted with this national honor for our progressive accounting programs," said Dean Lawrence B. Pulley. "This is a strong testament to the quality of our faculty, our accounting program leadership, and our graduates."
