Application Deadlines

The Part-Time MBA program reviews applications on a rolling basis. We encourage early applications to ensure available seats in the desired start term.

There is no GMAT or GRE test requirement to apply to the Part-Time MBA program.

Application Requirements

All students admitted to graduate programs at the Raymond A. Mason School of Business must have a conferred bachelor's degree from an accredited institution prior to matriculation.

The Part-Time MBA program accepts applications in both Spring and Fall. We encourage you to apply by Round 1 to ensure the best chance of a seat being available in the class.

Access the Online Application Form

Candidates access the application portal and create an account with a username and password. Applicants may re-enter the application as many times as needed to complete it.

A non-refundable $100 application fee is required of each applicant. A waiver of the application fee is offered to active-duty military, veterans, those who have served in such organizations as the U.S. Peace Corps and AmeriCorps, Tribe Scholars, and applicants meeting certain application round deadlines. Please request the application fee waiver within the application before submitting the application. Do not submit credit card information if you are requesting a waiver, as those charges cannot be reversed.

Upload Transcripts

To expedite the application review process, applicants must submit an unofficial transcript. Note: unofficial transcripts will not appear as "complete" on the checklist until a candidate has submitted official reports at the time of enrollment. Please disregard this checklist status.

Once admitted, you will be required to provide an official transcript from your degree-granting institution. Official transcripts should arrive in a sealed envelope with the signature of the Registrar across the seal. Do not open official transcripts. Official transcripts can also be submitted electronically to [[m|masontranscripts]] via your institution's electronic vendor and using secure portals. A transcript sent directly by the applicant will not be accepted as official. William & Mary graduates are only required to upload an unofficial transcript.

Transcripts for study abroad programs or transfer credits are not required if the course and grade are included on the transcript of the degree-granting institution but can be requested by the Admissions Committee if deemed necessary. If your transcripts are in other languages other than English, also submit translated versions. Upon receipt of the official transcript, the status will be updated in the application checklist.

Part-Time MBA program applicants are required to have at least two years of professional experience by the time they begin classes. This experience gives students a framework within which to understand what is being discussed, as well as the ability to contribute to classroom learning from their own perspective.

Write Essays

Essays give our Admissions Committee greater insight into you as a person and allow you to share your aspirations, strengths, leadership, challenges overcome, and your unique perspective.

Submit Two Professional Recommendations

Your two recommenders should be people who know you professionally and typically people to whom you report or have reported. They should be able to provide specific and relevant information about your abilities, performance, and motivation to pursue an MBA degree.

We want your recommenders to fill out our form rather than composing a letter of recommendation. Enter each recommender's name, email address, and other requested information in the recommender section of the application. Once this information is entered, your recommenders will receive an automated email with a link to our recommendation form. They complete the form and submit it directly to us.

You do not have to wait for your recommendations to be submitted before you submit your application as long as your recommender information is entered. Recommendations may be received before or after you submit your application.

Interview with the Admissions Team

An interview is the last step in the admission process once the application is complete. Interviews are offered by invitation only to candidates whose applications have passed through an initial evaluation. Interviews are available in person or virtually. Tribe Scholars are not required to complete an interview. Once the interview is complete, the Part-Time MBA Admissions Committee will make an admission decision, typically within two to three weeks. We will post the admission decision in the application portal and will send an email to each applicant notifying them that their decision is ready for viewing.

Why we don't require GMAT or GRE to apply

Data indicates that these test scores are not necessarily the best predictor of success for professionals like you, who have multi-dimensional applications that include information about academic performance and impressive professional experience. If you have already taken the GMAT or GRE, we are always happy to accept your test scores, and our admissions committee can consider that information as part of their decision, but scores are not required.

Need more time? Consider our MBA FastStart Non-Degree Option

MBA FastStart is an option for students who are not quite ready to apply for full admission into the Part-Time MBA program. We offer several of our Part-Time MBA courses on a non-degree seeking basis in spring, summer and fall. It truly is a fast start: No recommendations, no essays, no interview, and a short, simple application.

MBA FastStart students may take up to nine credit hours without gaining full admission into the program as long as there is capacity in the course. If MBA FastStart students become degree-seeking students, all non-degree classes transfer automatically to their degree.

Tuition for non-degree seeking students is the same as fully admitted Part-Time MBA students. Please review the tuition details. Non-degree graduate-level courses are not eligible for federal financial aid, but some private loans are available through traditional lending institutions, like banks. Just make sure the lender does not require degree-seeking status.

Is the Part-Time MBA program accredited?

The program is fully accredited by The Association of Advance Collegiate Schools of Business; AACSB International.

Is the Part-Time MBA degree the same as the Full-Time MBA degree?

You will earn a "William & Mary MBA" degree no matter which MBA program you choose at William & Mary. Diplomas across our MBA programs are identical.

Is the Part-Time MBA faculty the same as the Full-Time MBA faculty?

Almost all William & Mary MBA faculty teach across all MBA programs, full or part-time. Additionally, significant percentage of faculty in all MBA programs are full-time, tenured professors.

How long is the Part-Time MBA program?

The average time to complete the degree is around 2.5 years. The program is flexible, so students can accelerate or slow their pace. Students may also take semesters off. Students must complete the program in 5 years.

Where, when, and how often do students attend class?

Part-Time MBA courses are taught in person at the W&M Peninsula Center in Newport News, Mondays-Thursdays, 7:00-9:50 pm. The typical student is in class 2 evenings per week. There is the possibility of Saturday morning classes in the summer semester to allow for a longer break before the fall semester.

Does the Part-Time MBA program offer online classes?

The Part-Time MBA program allows up to 12 credit hours to be completed online.

Is the Graduate Career Management Center available to Part-Time MBA students?

Part-Time MBA students have access to the Graduate Career Management Center throughout their course of study and afterward, as alumni.

Is work experience required to apply?

We require at least two years of professional experience by the time a student starts the program. Work experience lends students the ability to make meaningful contributions to class discussions as well as provide mentorship and leadership opportunities among their peers.

Is a business background or business undergraduate degree required?

We welcome applications from those with a variety of academic and professional backgrounds.

Is the GMAT or GRE required for admission?

We do not require GMAT or GRE test results for admission into the Part-Time MBA program.

What is the minimum undergraduate GPA required?

Undergraduate GPA is one of a number of components our Admissions Committee considers, including professional experience, quantitative skills, clear goals, and recommendations. GPA is evaluated in the context of the rigor of the institution and the program in which it was earned.

Are transcripts required for transfer credit classes?

We must receive transcripts with course names and A/B/C grades for all courses applied to your degree(s). If transfer credits show a grade of "T" or "TR" on your degree-granting institution transcript, we require a transcript from the institution you took the course from as well.

My undergraduate degree is international. Are there any special requirements?

Yes. We welcome international transcripts, but please contact Graduate Admissions at [[m|admissions]] for special requirements related to international transcripts.

Who is an appropriate recommender?

Must all application materials be submitted at one time?

Application components, including recommendations, can be received in any order both before and after the actual application is submitted.

How long will it take to receive an admission decision?
