Raymond A. Mason School of Business Establishes Endowed Scholarship in Honor of Professor Jim Bradley
The Raymond A. Mason School of Business is proud to announce the establishment of the Professor James Bradley MSBA Scholarship, a new endowment honoring the legacy of esteemed faculty member James Bradley.
Bradley is currently the Hays T. Watkins Professor of Operations Management and Information Technology and played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Mason School’s Master of Science in Business Analytics Program. Bradley joined William & Mary’s faculty in 2004 and retired at the conclusion of the 2024 academic year.
Dean Todd Mooradian, T.C. and Elizabeth Clark Professor of Business Administration, expressed his enthusiasm for the new endowment which aims to support students who demonstrate a passion for business analytics stating, “Professor Bradley’s dedication to his students and his field is unparalleled. This scholarship ensures that his legacy of principled achievement and mentorship excellence will continue to inspire future generations of our students.”
Bradley’s distinguished career includes a Ph.D. from Stanford University and an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. He has authored research on various topics including supply chain management, capacity and inventory management, artificial intelligence, and lean manufacturing. Before completing his Ph.D. Bradley spent 15 years in manufacturing at General Motors. He has also consulted for companies such as 3M, Digital Equipment Corporation, and the Commonwealth of Virginia Employment Commission.
His extensive industry experience combined with previous faculty roles at Cornell University and his passion for educating students interested in the field of operations management and information technology has made Bradley a pillar of excellence within the Mason School community.
Bradley regularly receives excellent student evaluations which frequently cite his ability to find new and innovative ways to capture students’ attention in the classroom. He was recognized in 2016 with the inaugural McGlothlin Award for Exceptional Teaching, an honor bestowed upon exceptional educators in the Mason School and the William & Mary Law School.
“This award reflects Jim and Fran McGlothlin's vision of honoring faculty who surpass traditional teaching roles to elevate the William & Mary student experience. Professor Bradley deserves this recognition for his pivotal role in creating and launching the business analytics degree program,” Mooradian said.
The scholarship has been generously sponsored by several prominent William & Mary alumni and members of the Mason School’s Business Analytics Advisory Board including Greg Willig ’94, Beth Wallig ‘95, Etim Edim ’98, and Vicki Edim, ’96.
Greg Wallig reflected on his motivation to establish the scholarship saying, “It all started with my involvement with the Business Analytics Advisory Board, which Jim invited me to join seven years ago. His passion for analytics and his genuine care for students inspired us to create this scholarship in his honor. We hope it will enable students to unlock new potential and pursue their interests in analytics.”
Beth Wallig added, “While neither of us are Mason School graduates, we have always felt a strong connection to the business school and its welcoming community. This scholarship is our way of giving back and recognizing Professor Bradley’s remarkable contributions.”
Etim Edim, another member of the Business Analytics Advisory Board, also shared his thoughts stating, “I’ve known Jim as a key individual responsible for establishing the Business Analytics program. His thoughtful, sincere, and brilliant approach has had an enduring impact on countless students. My wife and I are honored to support a scholarship that continues his legacy. Jim is truly a beloved pillar of our Tribe community.”
Reflecting on the honor, Bradley said, “It is a great honor to have a scholarship established in your name and I could never have imagined that what I have done would be worthy of such recognition. I will always feel an affinity for the MSBA programs that I helped create and, now through this scholarship, it is gratifying to know that my name will be explicitly associated with the program forever into the future. I am particularly thankful for my colleagues, the Analytics Advisory Board, and the great students who, together, have made this a great program.”
