What prompted you to return to school and earn an MSBA?
During my time as an Investment Analyst, we primarily relied on Excel but had access to more advanced analytical tools that were underutilized. Recognizing that my limited knowledge was a key factor in this underutilization. I attempted to self-learn by watching YouTube tutorials. However, I was quickly overwhelmed by the sheer volume of information and often found myself sidetracked by irrelevant content. It became evident that I needed structured guidance to leverage these tools effectively. Pursuing an MSBA was the ideal solution, as it provided a solid foundation in the analytical techniques necessary for effective analysis. The program offered exactly what I needed to enhance my skills and stay current with rapidly advancing technology.
Why William & Mary?
I chose William & Mary because its MSBA program has been established for eight years and boasts an extensive alumni network. I was impressed by the faculty's high level of accomplishment and the value they would bring to my education. Additionally, I was drawn to the Graduate Career Management Center, particularly as an international student, because of the extensive resources available for navigating a new job market. The Tribe connection at William & Mary is exceptionally strong; alumni and staff consistently go above and beyond to provide support and mentorship. This supportive network was a significant factor in my decision-making process and has exceeded my expectations since joining the program.
What are some highlights from the MSBA experience?
My most memorable experience in the MSBA program was serving as a Graduate Assistant with the Graduate Admissions team. The team's support made the role exceptionally rewarding and allowed me to develop valuable team management and interpersonal skills. I also greatly appreciated the opportunity to collaborate with talented peers and professors, who were always available to offer support. This collective effort contributed to our team winning the People's Choice Award at the Virginia Datathon in 2024, marking another highlight of my time in the program.
What value did the MSBA degree have on your professional growth?
The MSBA program provided a solid foundation in analytical tools, which has been crucial for further developing my skills. Everything we covered in stochastic modeling has helped me with forecasting and time series modeling when assessing my investments. The technical skills and tools I learned in the program will help me excel in any job. The experience I gained from participating in the Virginia Datathon showcased my ability to apply classroom concepts to real-world data challenges effectively. This achievement bolstered my resume and boosted my confidence in my skills.
How do you spend your free time?
I thoroughly enjoy kayaking on the lake behind the business school in my free time. It's my go-to spot for unwinding and taking a break from assignments. The tranquility of the lake provides a serene escape where I can relax and clear my mind. Being out on the water allows me to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of daily life and recharge my energy. Whether it's a leisurely paddle at sunset or an early morning row, kayaking offers a refreshing way to balance the demands of my academic workload with moments of peaceful solitude.
