Why did you pursue an MBA?
Part of my role at EAB focuses on helping hundreds of colleges and universities across the globe attract and enroll graduate students and adult learners into their programs. While at work, I was excited about returning to school to pursue a master's degree and how it would help shape my career trajectory. I aspire to move into senior leadership roles to flex my strategic thinking and team leadership skills to achieve results through others. Discussing my career goals with my family, friends, and mentors, they all recommended pursuing an MBA as the next step in my professional journey. I also wanted to set a positive example for my young daughters and show them that you're never too old to follow your dreams and achieve your goals.
Why William & Mary?
Return on investment (ROI) was significant to me when selecting an EMBA program, and the W&M admissions team connected me with a local EMBA alumna who was able to propel her career forward and increase her earnings by 200%—a compelling and positive ROI! I was also interested in this program because of the rigor of the coursework and the ability to balance personal and professional commitments by having classes every other weekend. The 18-month Fri/Sat bi-weekly structure, coursework, leadership development focuses, international trips, networking opportunities, and outcomes of William & Mary's EMBA program were extremely attractive. The most surprising part of the program was the quality and support of the faculty—they are truly unique, and I have honed so many new skills due to the program's academic rigor.
What were some highlights for you during the EMBA experience?
The access to an Executive Coach for an entire semester, the relationships developed with my classmates and faculty, and the global immersions in Greece and Singapore were extremely meaningful to me and have been the highlights of my time as a student.
What value has the MBA had on your career?
This EMBA program is the gift that keeps giving. I have been able to ask more strategic and thoughtful questions, confidently take on stretch assignments that involve solving complex business challenges, and serve as a more decisive leader and more effective coach. The EMBA program has allowed me to grow my career as I have been seen as a strategic business leader and given a greater scope of responsibility along with a larger team of direct reports. I have also gained credibility within my field of higher education.
