John Gilmour
Bio
Professor John B. Gilmour received an A.B. degree from Oberlin College, and a Ph.D. in political science from the University of California at Berkeley. He has taught in the Professor John B. He taught in the Department of Government from 1995 until retirement in 2024. During his career at W&M he served as the Director of the Public Policy Program and president of the Faculty Assembly. Professor Gilmour has taught a course on the federal budget in the Mason School Major General James Wright program since its inception.
His research and teaching interests focus on American politics and the federal budget. He has written two books, Strategic Disagreement: Stalemate in American Politics (U Pittsburgh Press, 1995) and Reconcilable Differences? Congress, the Budget Process, and the Deficit (U. of California Press, 1990), as well as articles in the American Journal of Political Science, the Journal of Politics, and Legislative Studies Quarterly.
