Mason alumna named one of Forbes' 30 Under 30
A Raymond A. Mason School of Business graduate has been included in Forbes Magazine’s inaugural “30 under 30 Asia” list. Pocket Yiqing Sun, who graduated from William & Mary in 2013, was named to the 2016 class for her success in the field of finance.
Forbes’ annual list showcases hundreds of today’s most influential young leaders and entrepreneurs from different business sectors. Each nominee is selected by a panel of judges who represent some of the best in their fields.
Originally from Northern China, Sun is the founder of SoGal, a global community of female entrepreneurs from more than 20 countries. She is also the founding partner of SoGal Ventures, the first female-led millennial venture capital firm. Her mission is to close the diversity gap in entrepreneurship and bridge business opportunities between Asia and the United States. According to Sun, SoGal Ventures has hosted high-impact conferences all around the world and invested in dozens of successful startups.
While attending Mason School, Sun majored in Marketing with an international emphasis - an education she believes laid the groundwork for her success. “Mason provided a very solid business foundation for me, and pushed me from a not-so-confident international student to a capable business professional,” she said. “I was able to connect with great mentors through Mason’s Executive Partners network who continue to support me today.”
She looks back on her time at Mason fondly. “My favorite classes were with Professor Don Rahtz, who took our class to a fabulous business trip in South-east Asia. And now I'm doing business in Singapore,” Sun said.
“Entrepreneurship is really an amazing journey,” she added. “You never know what's coming up next.”
