The Summer Business Institute is a four-week online program where undergraduate students will receive access to training platforms, unique special topic education, and professional development preparation. Students will also have the opportunity to connect with industry professionals in accounting, business analytics, consulting, finance, and marketing.

Admitted Business Majors & Minors and Recent Graduates: There is no cost to participate in this program for Mason School undergraduate students as well as recent Mason School graduates.

Undeclared or A&S Majors & Minors: There is a one-time early bird fee of $999 when a student registers through June 15th. From June 16th - June 19th, the one-time fee will be $1350.

Schedule

The program will be conducted during the second term of summer session from July 7th through July 30th and will be conducted virtually through synchronous webinars. Sessions will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm EDT. Each Tuesday will begin with a Keynote Speaker and each Thursday will end with a group activity. Program Overview
  • Week 1: Professional Development: Self Assessments, Public Speaking, Building Your Brand, and Honing Interview Skills. (All Students Together)
  • Week 2: Business Insights: Financial Crisis Comparisons, Current State of Economy, Non-profit Giving, and Supply Chain. (All Students Together)
  • Week 3: Technical Skills: Tableau, Python, Alteryx, and more. (All Students Together)
  • Week 4: Special Topics: Topics are still being finalized but sample topics include: Advertising, Big Data, Digital Marketing, Investment Banking, Hedge Funds, Public Relations, Real Estate, etc. (Students select a la carte different topics based on industry)
Participation Requirements
  • A big focus of the program is professional development. Therefore, even though the course is virtual, business casual attire is required.
  • Students are expected to attend all sessions. Please note, two advanced excused absences will be permitted during the four-week window with prior permission. Students that meet this requirement will receive a designation on their transcript.
  • Students must find their own means for virtual participation.
