Executive MBA Academic Experiences & Global Immersions

Unique Academic Experiences

Domestic Residencies

Each January you will be required to attend a domestic residency period. These periods are critical to the accelerated 18-month format and will immerse you in coursework and special topics.

Domestic Residencies

  • Kick-Off Residency

The Executive MBA Experience begins with Kick-Off Residency in Williamsburg and is a week filled with new people, new experiences, and the beginning of a new way of thinking, learning, and leading. Members of the new class begin working in their Learning Teams, start their first semester coursework with faculty, network with Business School leaders and Executive Partners, and participate in a number of team-building exercises that bring the entire group together as a true cohort.

  • Washington D.C. Area Residency

The second residency week is held in the Washington DC area and kicks off the fourth semester. With a deep dive into critical considerations of innovation and technology, this residency prepares executive students for what they must know to lead in today's highly-connected world.

Global Immersions

We believe that to truly be an effective executive, entrepreneur, or leader, you must have a global perspective. In order to provide our Executive MBA students with a grounding in international business, we offer two distinct international experiences. Both of our global residencies were created specifically to immerse you - along with your classmates and faculty - in current issues permeating international business today.

Global Immersions are a hallmark of our experience, providing you double the global content through cultural, economic, governmental, and geographic lenses compared to other executive MBA programs. A requirement for all of our Executive MBA students, you'll emerge from these international trips with a deeper understanding of the world around you and how challenges facing the global business market impact you and your organization.

"William & Mary provided a lot of opportunities that other programs do not. There were two international trips and they hones in on teamwork which I thoroughly enjoyed. The faculty gave us the space to make mistakes and figure out the answers on our own before stepping in to course correct."
