Chris McCoy joined the faculty of William and Mary as an Assistant Professor in 2018. He earned a BCBA, a MAcc, and a PhD in accounting from The University of Alabama. He also earned a BA in history from the University of Florida. He holds an active CPA license from the State of Virginia and is an active CMA.

His research focus is on financial markets and accounting information. Specifically, he has examined the use of non-GAAP information and its subsequent stock market reactions. His research has been partially funded by an international competitive grant. He has been quoted in the business press for his expertise in non-GAAP financial reporting. Additionally he has supported student research by working collaboratively with students receiving competitive research grant funding and conducting independent study projects.

He has taught courses in financial accounting, cost and managerial accounting, individual taxation, corporate and partnership taxation, and academic research design and analysis.
