Biography

Mike joined the Mason School in January 2014.  He has nearly 28 years of auditing and investigating experience - including information technology systems controls, design, implementation, and security.  Prior to joining the Mason School, he worked for the Commonwealth of Virginia's Auditor of Public Accounts and William and Mary’s Office of Internal Audit, where he was the Director for 18 years.  Mike is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).  Previously, he was a member of the College and University Auditors of Virginia (President July 1, 1996 - June 30, 1998).  Mike is the Chair of the College’s Honor System Advisory Committee and is a Special Trustee of the Southeastern Universities Research Association (SURA).

Education:

Doctorate in Education Policy, Planning, and Leadership, with an emphasis in Higher Education, from William and Mary (Dissertation: Relationships Among Long-term Debt, Current Fund Revenues and Expenditures, and Endowment Value at Public Four-year Colleges and Universities) Chair: Chancellor Professor David Leslie.

Advanced graduate degree in Higher Education Administration with a Public Policy cognate from William and Mary.

Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from William and Mary.

Bachelor of Science in Information Science from Christopher Newport College completing requirements for two majors - information science and accounting.

Mike is also an Executive Associate Professor of Higher Education Administration in William and Mary’s School of Education; he has taught the Financing of Higher Education (EPPL 676) and Organization and Governance of Higher Education (EPPL 635) courses.
