My interest in real estate started in 1980 when I sold a 22 door truck terminal and a 40,000 square warehouse building that had been used in a family business for 20 years. During the 1980s I accumulated a 1,000,000 square foot portfolio of warehouse buildings in Baltimore through acquisition, development and renovation (including an industrial condominium). I retained the properties until 2002 when I sold them to TA Associates, an institutional investor out of Boston.
In 1990 I enrolled in a Masters in Real Estate program at Johns Hopkins University and graduated in 1993. I have been an Advisory Board Member and active alumnus since then.
In 1994 I became the EVP/COO of a regional commercial real estate brokerage and property management firm. In my eight years there we successfully grew from 22 agents in 2 offices to 52 agents in 4 offices. I then joined CB Richard Ellis where I was a retail broker in Florida for two years and then Managing Director of the Baltimore office for three years.
In 2009 I joined CoStar Group, the premier commercial real estate data base organization, as the Regional Sales Director for MD, VA and DC.
My final position in the industry was as National Sales Director for the National Investment Center for the Seniors Housing and Care Industry which provided performance data on 12,700 senior housing and care properties in the largest 100 metro markets in the United States.
