Vernell’s professional career has spanned almost forty years during which time she had four distinctly different careers. Her career began as an educator at Kamehameha Schools, a private school for Hawaiians and as a professor at the University of Hawaii. She then was an operations executive in industries such as high tech, consulting (Ernst & Young), insurance (Nationwide Insurance), museum (Colonial Williamsburg) and healthcare (United Healthcare). Her daily responsibilities included the management of administrative functions including finance, sales & marketing, human resources, strategic planning, technology, training, buildings & facilities, and research & development. Later, as an attorney, she practiced law for several years and also was the COO of several large law firms in Washington, D.C., Kansas City, MO., and Oakland, CA. She then applied her education and experience to “strike out on her own” as an entrepreneur and owner of a small business.
