Since 1998, Gary Plaag has been the president and CEO of Couragio Consulting, a communication consultancy serving clients in the US, Canada and Western Europe. Couragio Consulting specializes in helping individuals and organizations to develop engaging, authentic and confident communication, presentation and public speaking skills, business networking and job interview skills, and effective strategies for mitigating performance anxiety. Gary served on the faculty of George Mason University for 8 years, teaching public speaking, and business and professional communication classes at the undergraduate level. With a passion for entrepreneurship, Gary mentors entrepreneurs throughout the Virginia Peninsula as a volunteer with START Peninsula and other entrepreneur-focused organizations and programs. Prior to starting Couragio Consulting Gary was an information technology manager for 19 years and served as a speaker and lecturer at numerous information technology conferences across the US. In addition to working with business professionals in the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors, Gary also mentors and coaches a cappella singers and musical performance artists on effective stage performance and audience-engagement skills.
Gary earned his B.A in Government at the College of William and Mary and his M.A. in Communication at George Mason University. He has served on the Boards of Directors of Leadership Fairfax, and the Barbershop Harmony Society. He currently is the Executive VP of Harmony Foundation International and the president-elect of the Rotary Club of Newport News.
