Shannon's career in the foodservice distribution industry spanned 26 years beginning at a distribution center in Pittsburgh as a sales representative progressing through positions as Sales Manager, VP of Sales and Market President. He also held corporate level positions with Alliant/US Foodservice including VP of Sales Support and Administration, Division VP of Sales over 10 distribution centers in the west and VP/GM of the USF Shared Services Center supporting centralized A/P, A/R and payroll for the country.
In 2003, Shannon crossed over to the nonprofit social service sector as CEO of St Mary's Food Bank. Founded in 1967, St Mary's is recognized internationally as the world's first food bank. In 2011 the food bank ranked as the largest social service agency in Arizona and as one of the largest food banks in the country distributing 74 million pounds of food, representing approximately 250,000 meals a day to folks in need in Arizona. The food bank received Charity Navigator's "Four Star" rating for nine consecutive years during Shannon's tenure as CEO. He also served for two years as Chairman of the Feeding America food bank network National Council representing its 200 food bank members serving the United States.
Shannon retired from St Mary's in July of 2012 and relocated to Williamsburg.
Shannon serves as Director of the Corporate Field Consultancy Program which matches teams of 2nd year MBA's with outside clients addressing a realworld consulting project. In addition, he is a Section Leader for two courses on the online MBA program.
He currently coaches and mentors area nonprofit leaders and serves as a consultant to the Feeding America Food Bank network. Shannon has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business from Marquette University in Milwaukee Wisconsin (1977) and Masters Degree in Business from the Executive MBA program at the University of Pittsburgh (1988).
