After retiring as president of the Cranbrook Educational Community, Rick moved back to Williamsburg with his wife Sandy in 2014. During a forty-year career in education he served the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation as senior vice-president and acting president, Knox College (president), University of Pennsylvania (senior vice-president) and Centre College (vice-president). Before leaving southeast Michigan Rick served on the boards of the Cultural Alliance of Southeastern Michigan (founding chair), Detroit Public Television, Oakland Family Services (chair of OFS Early Childhood Development Taskforce), Michigan Science Center, Detroit Zoo Education Committee and The Community House. During previous time in Williamsburg, Rick served on the boards of the Williamsburg Community Hospital, Virginia Wesleyan College, Virginia Symphony and Thomas Nelson Community College Campaign Cabinet. He is currently on the boards of The Williamsburg Community Foundation, The Williamsburg-James City County Schools Foundation and the Muscarelle Museum.
