CPA Preparation

How do you prepare for the CPA exam?

I. Get your transcripts evaluated early in your MAcc year so you know which electives you need to take. Follow these steps to get your transcripts evaluated:

  • Decide the state in which you intend to sit for the CPA exam. We highly recommend that you review the Board of Accountancy (BOA) requirements for your state. The majority of students in the program sit for the Virginia exam each year. If you are unsure what you should do, then please do not hesitate to ask Prof. Elizabeth Foster, for advice.
  • When in doubt regarding qualification issues, make sure to follow up with the BOA. Just to be clear: the MAcc program cannot determine whether you meet the requirements to sit for the exam in your chosen state. That is why it is crucial you contact the BOA as soon as you begin the program.

II. Consider taking a CPA test review class before you sit for the test.
