Class of 2022 Commencement Weekend: May 20-22, 2022

Undergraduate (bachelor's) degrees will be invited to participate in the Commencement ceremony taking place on Friday, May 20 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in Zable Stadium (rain or shine).  They will also be invited to the Undergraduate Business Diploma Ceremony (for bachelor's degrees) on Saturday, May 21 from 4:30 - 6:00 p.m. in Kaplan Arena.

The Commencement ceremony for Graduate (masters degree) Business students will take place on Saturday, May 21, 2022 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. in Zable Stadium (rain or shine).  A reception for Masters degree Business students will follow in Alan B. Miller Hall until 1:30 p.m.

The Commencement ceremonies for both Undergraduate and Graduate students will take place in Zable Stadium (rain or shine).  Additionally, the following details apply to both Commencement ceremonies.
  • A traditional Walk Across Campus will precede each of the ceremonies, with degree candidates processing from the Wren Building to Zable Stadium for their graduation.
  • In case of thunder/lightning, students will graduate in Kaplan Arena, but families will need to watch virtually due to mandated occupancy restrictions indoors.
  • All ceremonies will be live-streamed for those who cannot attend in person.
Pre-Commencement Check-list

If you have not done so already, please review and complete the following pre-Commencement checklist.

  • Check Banner (wm.edu), ensure your degree requirements are complete and clear any holds or fines. A hold on your account will prevent you from receiving your diploma on Commencement Day. Payments for financial holds will need to be made before 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 18 to allow processing time and hold removal.
  • Download the W&M Mobile app and tap W&M Grad to build a custom schedule of events, have fun with #wmgrad, and find updates, student instructions, parking, maps, the live stream and other essential information.
  • Carefully review the Information for Students. These pages include important details about the schedule, photography, disability services information, and parking.
  • Prepare your regalia and learn how to “don your hood” per this video.
  • Check your W&M email regularly.
Further information about the Commencement weekend can be found on the website maintained by the Office of Student Affairs at www.wm.edu/commencement or by contacting your Raymond A. Mason School of Business Program’s office.
Tickets and Regalia
Tickets
  • Ticket registration has closed.  If you were not able to register for tickets during the registration window, please contact masoncommencement@mason.wm.edu for assistance.
  • For students that requested tickets, ttickets are electronic and will be emailed to graduates in mid-May. You may then forward the tickets to your guests to display on their phone, or they may print out their tickets to be scanned. If using a phone, they should have the tickets open and ready for scanning when they reach the entry gate. Each ticket scans only once, so electronic tickets may not be duplicated.

Is regalia required for Commencement Ceremonies?

Yes, regalia is required to be worn by all graduates for Commencement.

What color is the hood supposed to be?

Raymond A. Mason School of Business MBA, MAcc, and BBA graduates wear brown (drab/tan) hoods. MSBA students wear gold hoods.

How to put the hood on?

Donning the hood is a two-person job. For tips view a regalia video. Staff will also be on-site to help, if needed.

What should be worn with regalia?

We recommend wearing attire appropriate for the formal atmosphere of Commencement. However, remember that it is likely to be warm that day and you may not want to wear a suit coat under your regalia. Comfortable, business formal shoes are recommended since you will likely do a lot of walking.

Cords?

Yes, bring your honor or recognition cords with you to wear draped over your shoulders at the commencement ceremony.
