The Mason School of Business at The College of William and Mary announced a $5 million gift from alumnus James Brinkley (BA ’59, LHD ’03) at a November 3 celebration at the Sir Christopher Wren Building. The gift will support the business school’s new building, Alan B. Miller Hall, scheduled for opening in Fall 2009.

Professor Julie Agnew '91 held the first meeting of the new Finance Academy outside under a tree because there was no classroom available for the small group of interested students. Since that first meeting in 2004, hundreds have joined the Academy, seeking to better prepare themselves for careers in finance. Many of these same people, now alumni with successful careers on Wall Street, are giving back to the program they feel contributed to their success by launching an effort to raise $500,000 to support the Finance Academy’s operations and underwrite a tiered state-of-the-art classroom in Alan B. Miller Hall.
Fran Engoron’s passion for developing future business leaders is evident when she speaks of the Mason School’s Leadership Advantage Program (LeAd). Her commitment to the concepts and execution behind the unique program and a desire to perpetuate this resource-intensive and atypical academic experience compelled her to invest $100,000, including a $25,000 matching gift by PricewaterhouseCoopers.

David Burris MBA'89 a Senior Vice President of SunTrust presented a check in the amount of $50,000 on behalf of SunTrust of Hampton Roads to Mason School of Business Dean Lawrence B. Pulley on February 16 in Tyler Hall. The gift completes SunTrust Bank’s initial commitment to the fundraising campaign for Alan B. Miller Hall, the future home of the school of business, slated to open in Fall 2009.
The College of William and Mary and The Mason School of Business recognized two longtime friends and supporters, Hays T. Watkins Jr. LLD ’82 and his son H. Thomas Watkins III ’74, for their leadership and support to the College totaling more than $4.5 million over three decades. A reception in their honor was held on September 28 during the College’s Family Weekend celebration.
