Southeast Asia Winter Break Program

Global Business Analysis & Immersion Courses with Study Trip

The application for Winter 2013 is now available.

Don Rahtz's Global Business Analysis and Immersion class in Southeast Asia.

A truly unique course opportunity at William & Mary's Mason School of Business is Prof. Don Rahtz's Global Business Analysis and Immersion class that travels to Southeast Asia over winter break. The course meets throughout the fall semester, developing the intellectual processes needed to conduct in-depth global business analysis. The objective of these meetings is to improve the ability of students to collect, analyze, contextualize, and utilize what they will see (and won't see) while abroad.

W&M student Robert Lawrence bonds with children at a local school in SE Asia.

The class then embarks on a unique immersion experience in Southeast Asia.  The trip focuses on cultural and economic understanding at the corporate, national and transnational levels.  They apply the concepts learned in class to businesses they visit during the trip, providing a learning-in-the-field approach to making effective and strategic business decisions.

While abroad, students tour local and transational businesses, attend a number of business meetings, visit local schools and tour cultural points of interest.  They keep a personal daily journal and conduct hands-on investigations in the countries visited. The trip typically culminates with a three day sea kayaking trip in the breath-taking paradise of Phuket, Thailand.  The experience helps students understand and effectively navigate the rapidly evolving global business community.
