Poised & Ready for Every Opportunity
Whether she's starting up a new marketing campaign, handling the finances for the Business Fraternity or cheering on Tribe Athletics, Keri Voke is ecstatic about life and ready to take advantage of every opportunity.
About Me
Originally from Canton, MA, I am a huge fan of Boston sports and I love visiting Cape Cod. Here in Williamsburg, I am studying Marketing, with a concentration in Management & Organizational Leadership, and a minor in Economics. My Individual Program of Study (IPS) was really driven by diversity and depth of experience. I tend to jump at any opportunity to try something new or further my knowledge of a subject in real world situations. My marketing experience extends so far beyond the classroom, as I have learned to perform market research, write press releases for a public relations company, and organize outreach for a nonprofit in a foreign country. Furthermore, I work at William & Mary's Career Center to develop marketing messages for the multiple programs they provide each semester. Each of these experiences has added to my IPS, which is more of a continually developing search for knowledge than a steadfast program.
Impact &
Engagement
As an avid competitive cheerleader in high school, I was ecstatic to join a varsity team at William & Mary. The team not only cheers for basketball and football games but works-out constantly and sometimes at unheard of hours of the morning. The teamwork and dedication of Tribe Cheerleading has been one of my favorite college experiences, not to mention being featured on ESPN!
I also serve as the Vice President of Finance of the business fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi. We have the unique initiative to combine every major (business and non-business majors) into a cohesive business and networking savvy group. As a marketing major working in a finance role, this opportunity was the perfect way to diversify my experiences within the business school.
Highlights
During my study abroad experience in Rome, I was lucky enough to work with UNICEF as a student ambassador. However, having to work directly with their local organization presented both cultural and linguistic challenges. Overcoming the differences, I helped to develop an outreach program directed towards other study abroad schools located in Rome. We scheduled lectures and human rights speakers as an additional facet of the study abroad experience. It was exciting to engage in the marketing and development of a program in a foreign country while working with a completely Italian team.
Another highlight of the business program, was when I did consulting for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. We performed in-depth market research and analysis and presented our findings to top management in the foundation. This resulted in our recommendations actually being implemented. The experience was developed by my favorite marketing professor, Prof. Nicole Montgomery. It was a neat opportunity to work with Prof. Montgomery and a small devoted team of students. It was a solid addition to the diversity of experiences I have acquired at the College.
Next Steps
Currently I am working at a public relations agency that specializes in the life sciences sector, including clients of both established and start-up pharmaceutical companies. As an intern, I write press releases and engage reporters, organize a new business campaign and manage the complete redesign of the company website. The most gratifying part of my work is feeling like it's making a difference in the operation of the company, which is viewed by many as the leader in its field.
I know that all of my experiences have given me the opportunity to make strategic professional connections, whether in Virginia, Boston, or even Rome. Each experience has played a part in helping me develop my skills so that one day when a dream opportunity arises, I am poised to take advantage of it.
