Shooting for the Stars
Sarah Quinlan is a star soccer player, a social butterfly, and a marketing whiz. What about her IPS makes her happy to wake-up on Monday mornings? Find-out below:
About me
I am a member of the William & Mary's Soccer team and am a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. I'm majoring in Marketing with a concentration in Accounting. Prior to college, I lived in six states. Although I graduated from high school in Florida, I liked Virginia the best and that is why I came back here for college.
Highlights
What I like most about being a part of the business school is all the people I meet through the program, whether they are a member of my foundation semester team, a person in one of my classes, or one of my professors. I particularly liked the foundation semester with the "Block" courses. We had the same classes with the same group of people every day throughout the semester. I grew close with people I might not have otherwise known. We all became such good friends that we have thrown "Block 3" parties after the semester ended.
Defining Moment
Last year, as a Junior, I wanted to be more involved in the business school so I volunteered to be one of the social event planners. This position included the responsibility of organizing this year's Senior Appreciation Dinner.
At the dinner, the business professors toasted the graduating seniors. A professor remarked about all the great things the graduates were going to do upon their entrance into the "real world." It was at that moment that I realized I was also preparing for the "real world". It had never felt so real to me. I understood for the first time what a benefit it is for me to be part of the Mason School of Business.
Internship Experience
I am currently interning with University Directories. I visit thirty or more local businesses daily to sell advertising space to them. In turn, these companies reach the college community and increasing the amount of business they receive from students, faculty and staff. I am getting incredible hands-on experience in sales and advertising. I enjoy my internship so much that I truly like waking up for work in the morning - I am probably one of a few people who actually likes Mondays!
