Scripting her IPS
Clara Ngomba mixes her creative side with her practical side
by studying Business and applying it to the Arts. How does her IPS help her excel both
culturally and competitively? Clara's
thoughts are below:
About me
I am a Marketing major with an international emphasis and a concentration in Process Management & Consulting. I am also a minor in Classical Studies. During the spring of my junior year, I studied abroad in Athens, Greece.
I held an internship the following summer with an online entertainment magazine as a Promotions and Marketing Intern. During the fall of my senior year, I worked with the Business School as a marketing intern. I also worked with Alma Mater Productions (AMP) doing campus event planning on a large scale. But my true love is the movies - and particularly screenwriting. To date, I have written 3 screenplays and plan to continue writing in the future.
Highlights
The Mason School does a great job of bringing students, faculty, and experienced professionals together. I've had a lot of fun and I've learned so much about myself through all of the group work and projects that I've done over the past two years in my classes. I've also enjoyed meeting and networking with the Executive Partners and the Business Partners. They have so much information, knowledge and advice! It's been great to just sit and talk with them and learn from their experiences.
Defining Moment
My defining moment would have to be my time studying abroad in Athens, Greece. It was absolutely, hands down, the best experience of my life so far. Before I left, I never realized how much I needed a personal, international experience where I could immerse myself completely in a culture unlike my own. I learned a different language, ate different foods, and sometimes wore different clothes -- but most of the learning while I was in Greece came from within. It was a perfect time and opportunity for me to challenge myself and break out of my comfort zone. It's great that the Business School allows the time for students to be able to study abroad and still finish their degree on time.
I
cannot wait to go back to Greece. In
fact, I hope one day I will find myself there on a more permanent basis. Until
then, I'll just have to eat as many gyros and as much baklava as I can to
remind me Greece.
Future Plans
I will be attending King's College at the University of London, pursuing a Masters of Arts in Cultural and Creative Industries. I am excited to continue my writing and education in London, one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world.
One day soon, I hope to open my own media production company. My marketing degree has helped me combine my creative side with applicable and practical business skills to gain an edge in a competitive industry. In addition, I hope to continue screenwriting - maybe one day you'll see one of my films on the silver screen!
