Developing a Global Mindset

At the W&M MAcc program, we strive to create future business leaders. That's why we have initiated the Global Mindset program: because financial reporting standards are converging to serve global business. We are proud to have students from all over the world in our program and truly celebrate the diversity of perspectives this brings to the MAcc experience at Mason School of Business.

Now, with support from our colleagues at Argos, E&Y, Cherry, Bekaert & Holland, Grant Thornton and Maersk, we have developed a course that puts cross-cultural understanding at the forefront. Using Thunderbird School of Management Professor Mansour Javidan's methodology, we have developed a class that challenges students on the intellectual, psychological and social levels. Whether they are relaxing and playing games from around the world in the Global Mindset Studio, participating in a global knowledge seminar or taking advantage of our new course, the W&M MAccs have myriad opportunities to expand their horizons.

Our new course, Developing a Global Mindset, set sail January 4. Students travelled from Los Angeles to Mexico and Costa Rica before navigating the Panama Canal and continuing on to Columbia and the Grand Cayman Islands. By the time they flew back to Virginia, on January 17, our MAccs had delved into three emerging issues: the challenges of global financial reporting, global perspectives on sustainability, and multinational taxation.

MAcc Director Linda Espahbodi hails the course as another milestone in the program's series of innovations. "The course revolves around team work. As the class delves into the three emerging issues together, each student connects the three parts of their most important problem-solving resource: the team's intellectual, psychological and social capitals. It is this understanding that will help our students become truly effective business leaders in the 21st century."
