Biography

Edward L. Felton, Jr. has had a twenty-five year career in management education, teaching and conducting research principally in the areas of strategy, marketing, international business, and professional values. He has been a faculty member of institutions both in the United States and abroad. He has taught in undergraduate, graduate, and non-degree executive management program.

Dr. Felton currently is the Margaret Gage Bush University Professor at Samford University. As University Professor with a chaired professorship with the Business School, Dr. Felton has been involved with colleagues in revising the curricula of the University's business programs, establishing the Global Utilities Institute, and launching new teaching and research endeavors in the areas of international business and values.

Prior to his current position, Dr. Felton was professor of management and dean at the Babcock School of Management, Wake Forest University. He also has served on the faculties of the Colgate Darden School of the University of Virginia and the Harvard Business School.

Dr. Felton was a member of Harvard faculty teams that established the Asian Institute of Management in Manila and the Iran Center for Management Studies in Tehran. Also under Harvard's auspices, he headed the agribusiness program at the Instituto Centroamericano de Administracion de Empreases (INCAE) in Nicaragua. In addition, Dr. Felton was the principal advisor in the establishment of the Lahore University of Management Sciences in Pakistan and was a member of the team that established the Instituto de Superior Agricola in the Dominican Republic. His professional activities have taken him to more than seventy-five countries, and he has conducted management seminars in over thirty-five countries.

Dr. Felton has worded with a variety of domestic and international private and public sector organizations, focusing on strategic planning, global management, market creation, and economic development. His consulting clients have included Citicorp, Arthur D. Little, Champion International, Quaker Oats, Eskom, Continental Grain, Cooper & Lybrands, Digital Equipment, The Southern Company, Aspen Institute, The Presidential Commission on World Hunger, United States Agency for International Development, The Rockefeller Foundations, and The World Bank.

Dr. Felton has won teaching awards at Samford, Wake Forest, Virginia, and INCAE. He has authored or co-authored seven books and more than two hundred management case studies and articles in the fields of strategy formulation and implementation, global business, marketing management, economic and social development, and professional ethics.

Dr. Felton earned his doctoral and master degrees in Business Administration at Harvard University. He received a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Southeastern Seminary and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Richmond where he was elected to both Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa.
