What our students are saying

Leslie Lambert"I’d like to think of accounting as a practical application of economic principles. Accountants seek to represent the underlying economics of business transactions, and my academic background in economics enables me to better understand the business underlying the accounting. The program at William and Mary has been a great addition to my education."

-- Leslie Lambert, University of Virginia BA in Economics 2009, W&M MAcc 2010

Nadia Kahn"Economics doesn't always give you a technical business skill unless you are interested in pursuing econometrics or doctoral studies.  Likewise, accounting doesn't always give you a big picture understanding of business and general economic theory. Just one field of study would have given me a good understanding of one side of these issues, but having both fields of study in my background gave me a more complete understanding. W&M has given me a great education, both as an undergraduate and as a MAcc student. The faculty is terrific and the coursework has prepared me for a truly interesting career."

-- Nadia Khan, College of William and Mary BA in Economics 2004, W&M MAcc 2008

Nate Reid Resized"Coming into the program, I had two major concerns. First, would I be able to keep up with the accounting majors in the classroom? Looking back, the students who took the bootcamps were the ones I could count on to make great contributions on group projects. Second, would I be considered for interviews with the top accounting firms despite my completely unrelated undergraduate experience? I was able to land 5 first-round interviews from the 8 firms I was interested in (including 3 of the Big 4). In retrospect, having an unrelated undergraduate major probably gave me an edge in interviews. I always knew the first question would be Why physics?"

-- Nate Reid, University of Virginia BA in Physics in 2009,
W&M MAcc 2010

Cheryl Cochet edited"The agencies and people we visited on the annual trip really inspired me. I knew accounting was the field for me but I didn’t know how many different sorts of opportunities a master’s degree in the field could make possible. I am spending the year after graduation as an intern at the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). This is truly a career-defining chance."

-- Cheryl Cochet, College of William and Mary BBA in Accounting 2007, W&M MAcc 2008
