Nothing builds valuable experience and translates business theory into reality better than Mason's Field Consultancy Programs.
Mason School MBAs have confronted challenging assignments in areas such as corporate and operational finance, marketing, strategy, management and organization, logistics and transportation, human resources and information technology. In addition to Corporate Field Consultancy projects, students who have an entrepreneurial interest may choose to work on business start-up field consultancy projects, under the auspices of the Entrepreneurship Center. Students with an interest in finance may choose to work in the area of financial management with the Batten Fund.
Each year, the Mason School's Corporate Field Consultancy Program contracts with major companies across the mid-Atlantic region. Teams of second-year MBA students work as consultants charged with identifying, researching and proposing a solution for a real business problem faced by their client organization. Each project focuses on different issues, based on the needs of our clients.
Each project team works under the guidance of a faculty supervisor and Executive Partners to address management issues, develop a deeper understanding of the interdependence of functional areas, and polish teamwork and communication skills.
Clients benefit from a fresh, innovative perspective on a business problem and have the opportunity to observe your business savvy in action. In many cases, the Mason School of Business develops long-term working relationships with our Field Consultancy clients that result in post-MBA professional opportunities for our students.

Student Leader Perspective:
“Our Field Consultancy team was tasked with building a robust sales channel optimization model for a new product that had just been launched. Our client knew they could improve their current sales process, but they were not quite sure where to begin. Our team dove into the data and over the course of the project developed a flexible model that identified and quantified strengths and weaknesses within the sales process. With this model, our client was empowered with the information they needed to drive revenue and profitability. In addition to creating the optimization model, our team also uncovered several additional opportunities for improvement within the new product launch. In our final report and presentation we not only delivered what was originally asked of us, but we also recommended several additional tools and strategies for our client. Looking back, the Field Consultancy program was an exceptional opportunity to apply our business education to an actual business problem, and provide our clients with something of genuine value.” — Wes Atwood M.B.A. '13
