Accounting Programs Ranked #1 – again

The Mason School of Business at the College of William & Mary's undergraduate and graduate accounting programs are the best in their group for the second year in a row according to the Public Accounting Report's 29th Annual Survey of Accounting Professors. Overall, William & Mary’s undergraduate and graduate programs were ranked in the top 25 and the MAcc program improved its overall ranking to 22, up from 25 last year.

"We are pleased to be again considered number one among schools of our size, and I find particularly gratifying to be so highly regarded among all schools," said Mason Dean Lawrence B. Pulley.  "Since this is a ranking based on the opinions of our peers, it is a very strong—and fitting—endorsement of the achievements of our faculty and program leadership as well as our students and graduates."

To rank the programs, PAR surveyed more than 1,700 accounting educators on "which programs consistently turn out students capable of some day attaining partner status." Programs are ranked on a scale of 1 to 10, accordingly.

The ranking divides schools into three categories largely based on size of faculty in the program. The W&M programs ranked first in Group III, which include SUNY-Binghamtom and University of Richmond undergraduate programs. W&M’s Master of Accounting Program ranked first in Group III which included Vanderbilt University and Lehigh University.

"The Mason accounting faculty and staff are dedicated to the personal and professional development of our students.  We work hard on designing and delivering a relevant curriculum, as well as providing our accounting students with exceptional opportunities for access to the accounting profession, very broadly defined," said Accounting Programs Assistant Dean Tom White.  "To the extent these rankings provide a measure of external validation of our efforts and the many successes of our students and alumni, by peer program faculty, we are especially proud."
