MBAs light up Diwali Night

by Kirthi Ravi MBA 2011 | October 20, 2009

Anyone passing through Jamestown road on the evening of October 16, may have thought that there was a Bollywood movie filming in progress inside Miller Hall.

It was a cold night at Williamsburg, but the festive atmosphere inside offered abundant warmth. It was the annual Diwali celebration,  organized by the International Students Association (ISA) for MBA students, faculty and staff at the Mason School of Business.

Diwali is the Hindu Festival of Lights, which  celebrates the victory of good over evil - and the glory of light.

This year, the party was all the more extravagant than years past thanks to the beautiful Brinkley Commons Room in the brand-new Alan B. Miller Hall.

Enthralling about 380 attendees with sky-high expectations, the ISA committee put up a great show:  singing, dancing, rocking Bollywood music and of course, exotic Indian food! Students jived on the dance floor to numbers by A.R.Rahman, Anu Malik and Shankar Mahadevan.

The highlight of the show was a dance number by the faculty that had the students in splits as they cheered them on… and the common consensus was that the faculty clearly demonstrated that teaching was not their only passion!

The evening was especially a memorable night for the International students who felt right at home… tens of thousands of miles away from it!
