Biography
Anthony
J. DiBella, Ph.D. is a visiting associate professor of organizational behavior. His areas of expertise include organizational
change, culture, and learning with specific interest in the adaptation of
organizational forms and managerial practices across cultural boundaries. Professor DiBella is the author of two books:
How Organizations Learn: An Integrated Strategy for Building Learning
Capability (Jossey-Bass) and Learning Practices: Assessment and Action
for Organizational Improvement (Prentice-Hall) and has published in a
variety of professional and academic journals.
Prior to William & Mary, he was an associate professor of global leadership
and organizational behavior at the Thunderbird School of Global Management in
Glendale, AZ and associate professor of national security studies at the U.S.
Naval War College in Newport, RI where he taught strategic leadership and
decision-making. He has taught elsewhere at all levels of higher education at
Boston College, Boston University, Northeastern University, the University of
Massachusetts, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Formerly, Dr. DiBella established and directed the department of evaluation and
management research at PLAN International, a London-based NGO operating in over
60 countries, and was president of Organization Transitions, Inc., an applied
research and consulting firm. He has analyzed company operations literally
around the world and worked for a wide range of organizations including
AT&T, the Boston Police Department, Electricité de France, FIAT Auto,
Fidelity Investments, Foxboro Corp., Hope Global, IBM Global Services, Pfizer,
SAFECO Insurance, the Uganda Central Credit Union, USAID, and the YMCA.
Dr. DiBella earned his Ph.D. in organization studies from the Sloan School of
Management at MIT where he was a visiting scholar at the Center for
Organizational Learning. He also holds an MBA from the University of Rhode
Island, an MA in applied anthropology from American University, and a BA in
sociology from Trinity College (CT). He
is a founding member of the Society for Organizational Learning, and a fellow
of the Society for Applied Anthropology.
