Wagih Dafashy received his Bachelor of Commerce degree in accounting from Ein Shams University, Cairo, Egypt. He earned an MBA degree from the University of Texas, Austin in 1963, and completed his PhD in accounting at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, in 1966.
Before starting his graduate study, Wagih served as an auditor with the General Accounting Office in Egypt. He joined the College of William and Mary in 1965 as an assistant professor of accounting. During his 42-year career at the College, he taught at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs, reaching the rank of Chancellor Professor before retiring in 2007. He joined George Mason University in the fall of 2008 as a visiting professor of accounting, and taught there for four years. In 2012 he returned to the Mason School of Business, as a Chancellor Professor Emeritus, teaching at both the graduate and the undergraduate levels.
