When Do I Study Abroad?

Anytime really.  Each student has a different Individual Program of Study (IPS).  There is no set time period, there is no tiny window of opportunity.  We will work with you to find a way for it to fit into your academic calendar.  The Global Education Office (GEO) and the Mason School of Business are more than willing to work with you and your studies to find the perfect time for your study abroad experience.

A Full Year Abroad

Some students want to get the full abroad experience and take an entire academic year in another country.  The University of Manchester in Manchester, England is home to a fantastic year-long program that students from the Mason School have attended in recent years.  Students have also gone to the University of Exeter in England, the University of Mannheim in Germany, Monash University in Australia, and the American School of Business in Paris for academic year programs.

A Semester’s Experience

Others have chosen to take a semester out of their William & Mary experience and go abroad.  Pick up 12 or 15 credits of business education all while studying in a foreign country.  Consider programs and locations such as Sydney, Paris, Dublin, Dubai, London, Hong Kong, Rome, and many more.  Pick your country, pick your city, and pick your program.  Students have fulfilled their International Emphasis (IE) requirements, their core business requirements, and picked up a concentration all while experiencing another perspective.

A Summer for the Busy Student

Still others have found the summer abroad programs to be the most flexible.  Without disrupting their William & Mary experience, students are able to take six weeks over the summer to travel and study.  With dozens of programs through the Global Education Office (GEO) featuring William & Mary professors traveling with upwards of 60 other students in each program, these summer programs have become a popular and simple way to gain the international perspective and diversify your experience.  The GEO offers William & Mary sponsored programs to Beijing, Cádiz, Cambridge, Florence, Prague, and St. Petersburg – just to name a few.
