Getting Started Studying Abroad

The Global Education Office (GEO) in the Reves Center for International Studies is a great place start.  You can attend a pre-advising workshop and then schedule a meeting with a study abroad advisor who can help you decide on a program that works for you.

Looking for the scoop on a trip to Singapore?  Or perhaps a trip to Hong Kong, Dubai, or Torino?  The GEO can assist you in contacting other W&M students who have recently returned from studying abroad so that you may speak with them about their experiences.  Take a look at what other students have done, talk to those other students, and get connected to find out more about each program and whether it fits into your Individual Program of Studies (IPS)

Once you have selected a program you should schedule a meeting with Jen Waina (jennifer.waina@mason.wm.edu) in the Undergraduate Business Program to discuss how your coursework fits in with your IPS.  Jen worked in the Global Education Office for some time before coming over to the Mason School.  With an interest in global education and international perspective – having been to Adelaide during her undergraduate experience, inspected sites in Scotland and England for the Global Education Office, and been an advisor to the Mason School’s marketing trip to Vietnam and Cambodia – Jen can help you fit your study abroad experience into your business education.

Get your courses approved before you go!  Just a quick note, you will need to get your courses pre-approved before you go abroad to ensure that the credits you take will transfer to William & Mary and the Mason School without any trouble.  Be sure to register with the Global Education Office before you study abroad to avoid this trouble and so you can take the classes that you know will count.
