Computers in Cambodia
The Mason community is joining with Ponheary Ly to raise money for computers for a school in Cambodia. The Ponheary Ly Foundation was founded in 2006 as a way to provide funding and educational resources to students in Cambodia who would otherwise not be able to pay for school. School in Cambodia is free for the first three years, after which familities have to pay $12 a year for school supplies - all while living on less than a dollar a day. In those conditions, academically inclined students are denied access to vast educational resources and the internet as a result of extreme financial hardship.
In conjunction with Professor Rahtz's annual marketing trip to southeast Asia, the students in the BBA program aim to raise money in time to send the computers with the students on the trip. While in Cambodia, the students will spend a day at the school and work with students and faculty on how to use the computers. After the computers are set up in January, the Mason School hopes to send students the following summer to teach the students and faculty more about computers.
