If I have questions about the undergraduate business program who should I contact?

Jennifer Waina, Assistant Director of the Undergraduate Business Program, Tyler Hall Room 240, (757) 221-2719, jennifer.waina@mason.wm.edu.

What are the requirements for admission to the Mason School of Business?

Our competitive admission is based upon completion of five prerequisite courses, junior standing, and cumulative GPA (grade point average).  Prerequisites courses include:

  • Principles of Accounting (BUAD 203)
  • Introductory Microeconomics (ECON 101 or ECON 151)
  • Introductory Macroeconomics (ECON 102 or ECON 152)
  • Introductory Calculus (MATH 108, MATH 111, MATH 112, MATH 131, or MATH 132)
  • Introductory Statistics (BUAD 231, MATH 106, ECON 307, PSYC 301, SOCL 353, MATH 351, or KINE 394)

Applicants must complete these courses and obtain junior standing (54 academic credit hours) prior to entering the business school.  Student transferring from the Virginia Community College System or Richard Bland should consult the transfer credit guidelines available on the College Admissions website.

What are the various majors within the Undergraduate Business Program?

Accounting, Finance, Marketing, and Process Management & Consulting.

What courses do majors take in the Business School?

All newly admitted undergraduate business majors participate in the Integrated Foundation Semester.  Students work in the same teams across their business classes, developing the skills of teamwork, leadership, and communication.

When do I apply to the Mason School of Business?

You will apply to the School of Business after you have been admitted to the College of William & Mary.  Students who have completed all prerequisite courses and obtained junior standing (as determined by the Office of the University Registrar) will be elligible to apply for competitive admission to the Mason School of Business.  Students who have completed the prerequisites courses and have obtaining junior standing are not guarenteed admission to the Undergradute Business Program.

What if I have completed all the prerequisite courses and I just found out that I was admitted to the College of William & Mary?

Make contact with Jennifer Waina, Tyler Hall Room 240, (757) 221-2719, jennifer.waina@mason.wm.edu.

When will my credits be evaluated from my current college? Who will evaluate the credits?

After students are admitted to the college, then the evaluation of transfer credit begins in the Office of the University Registrar. Due to the overwhelming demand of students seeking admission to the College, evaluation of credits only takes place once a student accepts our offer of admission.

Once you receive confirmation of your evaluation of transfer credit, you can contact Jennifer Waina for an appointment. She can help you with planning your schedule within the business school.

I see that you do not have a major in International Business. What do you suggest for students who have this area of interest?

Many of our students choose to combine international interests by either double majoring in business and international relations or majoring in one and minoring in the other.  Participating in a study abroad program is a great way to enhance your educational experience.  Students who choose to study abroad may also internationalize their business degree by adding an International Emphasis.

Where do I find out more about study abroad opportunities?

The Reves Center for International Studies has information available on many opportunities open to students. You may contact the Global Education Office at smlave@wm.edu or (757) 221-3594, or visit their website.  The School of Business also serves as a resource for students regarding transferring credit from institutions abroad. Jennifer Waina, jennifer.waina@mason.wm.edu, handles arrangements for an advising appointment.

Will I still be able to participate in internships if I am a transfer student?

Certainly. Once you are an admitted student at the College, you are able to take advantage of all of the numerous services provided by the Office of Career Services.

Do you have any statistics on recent business graduates?

Yes, the Office of Career Services collects that type of information. Please visit their website.
