Director of MBA Admissions

The Mason School of Business is an AACSB-accredited school of business. Students are immersed in real business situations throughout the undergraduate and graduate business education programs. The school was named for William and Mary alumnus, Raymond A. “Chip” Mason in November 2005. It will move into its new state-of-art building, Alan B. Miller Hall, in fall 2009. Miller Hall was named for William and Mary alumnus, Alan B. Miller in March 2007.

The School of Business seeks an experienced professional to direct and oversee full-time MBA admissions.  The Director is responsible for developing strategy to attract and yield highly qualified MBA students from around the world, managing the Admissions staff and ancillary resources to execute that strategy, and assessing results and refining the Admissions process.  The Director reports to the Assistant Dean of the MBA Program, and collaborates closely with MBA Program staff, Career Services, faculty, and Marketing Communications. 

 

Successful candidates will embrace the mission and vision of the Mason School of Business, and exhibit outstanding communication skills, strong customer orientation, enthusiasm, leadership, and at least five years of progressive administrative responsibility.  Advanced degree as well as knowledge of admissions and Banner software preferred.

 

The position is divided into the following components:

 

Candidate Recruitment and Evaluation

 

The Director promotes the MBA Program to prospective students via print and electronic media, creative use of the MBA Program website, and representing the Program at national and international MBA forums. 

 

The Director oversees the process of screening and evaluating each candidate for admission by administering the interviewing program as well as conducting individual interviews; serving as the “final” reader on each application; rendering the final decision; and monitoring the reviews conducted by the professional staff.  The Director also acts to bring a high “yield” on offers rendered and strives to admit the most competitive class possible.

 

The Director develops and implements strategies and tactics to meet the School’s enrollment objectives.

 

The Director provides statistical reports both routinely and at the request of the administration or faculty.  Details on the applicant pool and class demographics are kept for reporting purposes.

 

Office Operations and Staffing

 

The Director supervises a Senior Associate Director, an Admissions Coordinator and an Enrollment coordinator and oversees operations related to the office.

 

Financial Aid

 

The Director manages the Financial Aid process for MBA students and assigns aid in the form of assistantships, fellowships, and scholarships.  The Director works closely with the College’s Financial Aid office and the School’s Budget Manager when distributing funds.

 

External Affairs

 

In collaboration with the Assistant Dean for the MBA Program, Development, Alumni Relations, and Marketing Communications, the Director oversees communications to and from prospective students, alumni, colleagues, and the general public; serves as a key resource to the “press” when admissions/enrollment information is solicited; and serves as the primary representative to the Graduate Management Admissions Council.

 

Internal Collaboration

 

The Director works directly with MBA Career Services, MBA Program staff, Marketing Communications, faculty, Executive Partners, and staff throughout the school to accomplish the objectives of MBA Admissions and to advance the quality, visibility and reputation of the Mason School as a whole, and the MBA Program in particular.

 

Required Qualifications

 

*B.A. required
*A minimum of five years of progressive administrative responsibility, including management of budgets and staff. 
*Must exhibit outstanding communication skills and a positive, collegial working style

*Must provide excellent service to all stakeholders
*Must be able to manage resources effectively and efficiently

Preferred Qualifications

 

*Master's Degree strongly preferred and/or relevant business experience
*Knowledge of admissions and Banner software preferred
