July 17-19, 2003
Frank Batten is the retired chairman of Landmark Communications, Inc. (including The Weather Channel®) and TeleCable Corporation. Currently he is Chairman of the Board's Executive Committee at Landmark. He serves as a Senior Business Advisor to the Dean of the School of Business Administration at The College of William & Mary. With his generous support, the Accounting group at William and Mary will host their annual "Frank Batten Young Scholars Forum" designed to bring in junior faculty conducting exemplary research for a mini-conference in Williamsburg, Virginia.
One objective of the mini-conference is to foster collaborative work, create professional networks, and strengthen existing professional relationships. To that end the forum is designed to be intimate and casual, with ample time for informal interactions.

Lodging and Meeting Locations
The conference hotel is the Williamsburg Hospitality House, located at 415 Richmond Rd. (757-229-4020 or 1-800-932-9192). If driving, this road map and directions may be helpful. Follow directions to Richmond Road and the hotel will be on your left, across the street from the Walter F. Zable Stadium (the stadium is #93 on this map of the campus). Check-In time is 3:00 pm. If you arrive at the hotel earlier, please ask the reservations desk to see if your room is ready. If so, it might be possible for you to check-in earlier. In any case, you can leave your luggage there.
If you fly into Richmond, you can obtain ground transportation from Groome Transportation, which departs from Richmond on the hour. The cost is about $40 one way (somewhat less than $80 if you purchase a round-trip ticket) and no reservations are needed (for questions call 804-222-7222).
If you fly into Norfolk, the Norfolk Airport Express has a service to Williamsburg area hotels. The cost is about $50 one way (and $95 round-trip) and again, no reservations are needed (for questions call 757-857-3991). Both Richmond and Norfolk are more than an hour's drive.
If you fly into Newport News, you can arrange for a taxi at the information desk or make advance arrangements with the Williamsburg Limousine Service at 757-877-0279. The cost is about $25 one way (again somewhat less than $50 if you purchase a round-trip ticket). Reservations must be made at least two days in advance. Newport News is a little more than a 30 minute drive away.
All sessions will be held in the Board of Visitors (BOV) Meeting Room on the 3rd Floor of Blow Memorial Hall (#7 on the map, Blow Hall is also where the Admissions Office is located, and it is marked as such on the campus map). If you enter Blow Hall from the street (Richmond Road), go up two floors and the BOV room is the first room on your right (next to the elevator). The directionally-challenged and/or risk averse should meet in the hotel lobby at 1:00 pm on Thursday and someone will be there to walk over with you.
