California native Katherine Guthrie brings a wealth of research and teaching experience to the Mason School of Business. She earned both her M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Michigan, and received a dual B.A. in Economics and International Relations from UC Davis.
Katherine has been an instructor in executive MBA programs, in a law school, and at the undergraduate level. She has taught a wide variety of courses, including economic principles, corporate finance, labor economics, industrial organization, and sports economics. At the Mason School of Business she is an Assistant Professor of Finance teaching Corporate Finance and Fixed Income Securities to undergraduate business students.
Her primary research interest is in the area of corporate governance and earnings management, and she is currently exploring the role of shareholders in executive compensation contracts and corporate misreporting. Other research interests include corporate finance and applied microeconomics.
Katherine is the recipient of many honors and awards, among them a Rackham Merit Fellowhip, an Olin Law and Economics Summer Research Fellowship, the Most Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor Award, and the highly competitive Most Outstanding Graduating Student Award at UC Davis.
She is married, and the mother of three children. Katherine enjoys spending time with her family and competing in triathlons and marathons.
